Day 2 is stasis. Followed by irrelevance. Followed by excruciating, painful decline. Followed by death. And that is why it is always Day 1.

Jeff Bezos’ 2016 Letter to Shareholders

As a long time Amazonian, I definitely subscribe to what Jeff Bezos’s definition of Day 2. You will hear employees saying, “that’s Day2 thinking”. I wasn’t aware of that during the first few months on Amazon back in 2016. When you hit a 3+ year tenure at Amazon and drank far too much Kool Aid, then that is when you are hooked.

But what is Day 2 look like for me. As of today, I’m trying to recuperate from acute bronchitis. Using my available sick days and time off and restructuring what I see as a new adventure.

I played around with the copilot and asked to generate an image using Jeff Bezos’s Day 2 phase. I’m not surprised by what was generated, the quote has some pretty dark and gloomy adjectives.

But definitely not what I see for myself. Not my Day 2.

Here is my immediate plan. Given the circumstances, I foresee the possibility of reinventing myself within the next two months. So using my jot down plan and asking co-pilot to generate an image, it brought me joy to see that is really full of new adventure. I sure hope so!
